THE VENUE

The Venue Is the House You Rent

Villas Ambar hosts weddings in six private villas on the jungle side of Tulum, Quintana Roo — not a resort ballroom, the whole house, exclusively yours for the weekend. Two of the six, Ambre & Épices Jungle Riad and Yum Kaax, sleep sixteen and eighteen guests and are the ones couples usually book for the wedding party itself; the other four suit an intimate ceremony, a rehearsal dinner, or housing close family alongside the main villa. What follows is what we can put a number on today — nightly rates, taxes, and what’s included — and what still needs a conversation: your ceremony headcount and the venue package for your date.

There is no separate ballroom, no banquet hall booked by the hour. You rent one villa, the whole thing, for the nights around your wedding day, and the garden, the pool deck and the palapa become your ceremony and reception space by default. Ambre & Épices Jungle Riad — eight bedrooms, eight bathrooms, sleeps sixteen — is the villa already positioned as our flagship wedding venue. Yum Kaax, also eight bedrooms, sleeping eighteen, is the other house built for a full wedding party. Casa Alba, Casa ChenXen, Casa Santo and Piece of Heaven — four to five bedrooms, eight to twelve guests — work for a smaller ceremony, an elopement, or extra sleeping capacity for family staying alongside the main house.

THE HOUSES

Six villas, two built for the wedding party

All six are whole-house rentals on the jungle side of Tulum, and every one has its own pool. Ambre & Épices and Yum Kaax are the two eight-bedroom houses that sleep sixteen and eighteen and are usually booked for the wedding party itself. The other four suit a smaller ceremony, an elopement, or extra family staying close by.

LEGAL & SYMBOLIC

Legal or Symbolic: The Short Version

Most couples who marry at one of our villas hold a symbolic ceremony in Tulum and complete the legal marriage at home, before or after. A civil marriage inside Mexico runs through the local Registro Civil and asks for passports, apostilled and translated birth certificates, four witnesses and local medical tests — a real process, not a formality you add to a venue booking. We set out how that process actually works, step by step, in How to Plan a Destination Wedding in Tulum. If a legal Mexican ceremony is what you want, tell us early: it changes the timeline.

HOW MANY GUESTS FIT

How Many Guests Fit

Two numbers matter, and they are not the same. The first is how many people sleep on site — that is fixed by the villa, and we publish it below. The second is how many people can attend the ceremony and reception, which depends on your layout, your caterer and which villa you pick.

Who sleeps at the villa — bedrooms, sleeping capacity, from-rate per night
VillaBedroomsSleepsFrom / night
Casa Santo410$300
Piece of Heaven48$350
Casa Alba512$400
Casa ChenXen510$500
Ambre & Épices Jungle Riad816$925
Yum Kaax818$989

From-rates are floor prices for the whole villa, checked 27 August 2026 — the same rates published on our bachelorette page. High season, US holiday weeks and the Christmas fortnight cost more.

That table answers who sleeps at the villa: eight to eighteen guests, depending on the house. It does not answer who attends your ceremony and reception — a garden wedding can seat and feed a larger group than the villa sleeps, and we haven’t published a fixed number for that yet, because it depends on your layout, your caterer and which villa you pick. Tell us your ceremony headcount and we’ll confirm what each villa can hold and quote the venue package for your date.

WHAT IT COSTS

What the Villa Costs for a Wedding Weekend

Villa rates are quoted per house, not per guest, so the per-guest figure falls as your wedding party grows. Taxes on a Quintana Roo rental are 21% — 16% IVA plus a 5% state lodging tax — on top of the nightly rate, and every visitor pays Visitax, a one-time Mexican federal fee of about $16 per person, paid once per trip on the official portal.

Cost per guest, per night, at capacity, before Visitax
VillaSleepsFrom / nightPer guest / night, at capacity
Casa Santo10$300$30
Piece of Heaven8$350$44
Casa Alba12$400$33
Casa ChenXen10$500$50
Ambre & Épices16$925$58
Yum Kaax18$989$55

Worked example, three nights, full house: sixteen guests at Ambre & Épices pay $2,775 for the villa, plus $582.75 tax (21%), plus $256 Visitax (16 × $16) — $3,613.75 total, about $226 per guest for lodging. The same three nights at Yum Kaax, with eighteen guests, comes to $3,878.07, about $215 per guest. That’s accommodation only. Catering, a private chef, décor, photography, an officiant and transfers are quoted separately, because they depend on how you want the day to run — not because we’re hiding a number.

INCLUDED & QUOTED SEPARATELY

What's Included, and What's Quoted Separately

The nightly rate covers the whole house, the pool and the grounds, for exclusive use. A dedicated on-site chef is available for a wedding banquet, with menus built around your preferences — see our sample events menu as a starting point for a conversation, not a fixed price list. Outside suppliers — your own decorator, photographer, florist or DJ — are welcome; tell us who’s coming in advance so the house team can let them in and brief them. Cleaning and any damage waiver are set out in your quote before you pay anything, the same as for any group booking with us.

HOUSE RULES

House Rules for Your Wedding Day

  • Exclusive use. You have the whole house and its grounds — no other guests, no shared spaces.
  • Headcount is sleeping capacity, not your guest list. If your ceremony brings in people who aren’t staying overnight, tell us the number before you book, so we can confirm the villa can actually hold your day, not just your night.
  • Amplified sound has a cut-off time. Our villas sit on residential jungle plots with neighbours a garden away; music and speakers outdoors are agreed with you in writing before your day, with a fixed hour when it stops.

WHICH VILLA, WHICH NEIGHBOURHOOD

Which Villa, Which Neighbourhood

Ambre & Épices and Yum Kaax both sit on the jungle side of Tulum, in La Veleta, where a walled garden and tree canopy give you a private backdrop for photos without renting out a beach. The beach road puts the ocean behind your ceremony, at a higher nightly rate and with the seaweed season (April to August) to plan around. We cover the full trade-off, area by area, in Where to Stay in Tulum — worth reading if your guests are also booking their own rooms nearby.

TIMING

When to Get Married in Tulum, in Brief

Dry season, November to April, is when most couples book their ceremony day; the Caribbean coast also sees sargassum seaweed from April to August and hurricane season runs June through November. We go through the month-by-month trade-offs, and how they interact with a wedding timeline specifically, in How to Plan a Destination Wedding in Tulum and Best Time to Visit Tulum.

QUESTIONS COUPLES ASK US

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average cost of a wedding in Tulum?

There isn't a single average, because the venue, catering, décor and guest travel are priced separately and vary with guest count. What we can put a number on is the villa itself: three nights at our smallest house, Casa Santo, sleeping up to ten, comes to $1,089 with tax before Visitax. Three nights at our two largest, sleeping sixteen and eighteen, comes to around $3,614–$3,878 depending on the villa. Everything else — catering, an officiant, photography, transfers — is quoted once we know your headcount.

Is $5,000 a reasonable budget for a Tulum wedding?

That figure usually describes a small local wedding without travel involved. For a destination wedding where guests are flying in and staying together, $5,000 is closer to what the villa alone costs for a mid-size group over a long weekend once tax and Visitax are added — before catering, décor or flights. It's a useful number to compare against, not a full destination-wedding budget.

What are the best wedding venues in Tulum?

Tulum's wedding venues fall into three types: all-inclusive resorts with an in-house wedding package, dedicated event venues built for weddings only, and private villas rented whole for the weekend. A villa is the only one of the three that also houses your wedding party under one roof, rather than a venue you leave at the end of the night.

Is it cheaper to get married in Mexico than at home?

Often, yes, for the venue and catering itself compared with an equivalent venue in the US or Canada — but the total depends heavily on how many guests fly in and how far. Run your own numbers against the villa rates above rather than assuming a fixed discount.

Do we need a legal Mexican marriage, or is a symbolic ceremony enough?

Most couples who marry with us hold a symbolic ceremony at the villa and handle the legal marriage at home, which is simpler for a group flying in from several countries. A legal Mexican wedding is possible through the local Registro Civil, but it adds paperwork and lead time — see our full guide for how that process works.

Which Tulum neighbourhood works best for a villa wedding?

For a garden or jungle-canopy ceremony with privacy from other guests, La Veleta — where Ambre & Épices and Yum Kaax sit — works best. For an ocean backdrop, the beach road is the option, at a higher nightly rate and with more foot traffic nearby.

How far in advance should we book a Tulum wedding venue?

Most of our wedding bookings come in six to twelve months ahead of the date, in line with any Tulum destination wedding. That lead time is less about our availability and more about giving your guests time to book flights and take the days off.

Is there a curfew on music at a villa wedding?

Yes. Amplified sound outdoors is agreed with you in writing before your day, with a fixed hour when it stops — our villas are on residential jungle plots with neighbours close by. It's the same house rule we set out for group bookings on our bachelorette page.
