Tulum nightlife, on Mexico’s Caribbean coast in Quintana Roo, happens in three places: downtown along Avenida Tulum, where a night of bars costs about 200 to 500 pesos; the beach road, where Gitano and Casa Jaguar turn dinner into dancing and Papaya Playa Project sells ticketed Saturdays on the sand; and ticketed jungle festivals such as Zamna and Day Zero. What most guides leave out is the clock. Under the hours Tulum’s municipality set on 17 March 2023, the latest we could find, venues with music on the coast stop serving at 1:00 am and turn the lights off at 1:30; downtown, at 2:00 and 2:30.
The big nights advertise later finishes than that, and this guide puts the rule and the advertised hours side by side. It is written for groups, couples and bachelorette weekends staying in a rented house, who want to know which nights are worth going out for, what each person will pay and how everyone gets home — not for a week of clubbing. Everything here is dated 15 September 2026. Hours and prices come from each venue’s own page where it publishes them, and from a reseller, listing or guide where it does not. The driving times back to Aldea Zamá, La Veleta and the town centre are our own measurements. Peso prices are converted at 17.13 pesos to the dollar.
Where Is the Main Nightlife in Tulum? Downtown, the Beach Road and the Jungle
The main nightlife in Tulum is split between downtown and the beach road, with the big festivals out in the jungle — and a night in one is nothing like a night in the other. Downtown — Tulum Pueblo, around Avenida Tulum — is where people who live and work here go out: Tulum bars with live bands, a food-truck park with salsa on Tuesdays, beer priced in tens of pesos. The beach road, the Carretera Tulum–Boca Paila that runs south through the hotel zone, is where the reputation comes from: restaurants that clear the tables for a DJ, and ticketed Saturdays on the sand. The jungle hosts the festivals, which are events with dates rather than places you can walk into on a Wednesday.
| Area | Where | What a night looks like | What it costs | Closing hours set in 2023 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Downtown (Tulum Pueblo) | Avenida Tulum and the streets off it: Batey, Místico; Palma Central on Avenida Kukulkán | Bars, live bands, salsa, food trucks | 200–500 pesos ($12–29) for the night; beer 35–50 pesos, mezcal 60–100 | Music and alcohol until 2:00 am; lights off by 2:30 |
| Beach road (Carretera Tulum–Boca Paila) | Papaya Playa Project, km 4.5; Gitano Jungle and Casa Jaguar, km 7.5; Vagalume, Bagatelle and Mía nearby | Dinner that turns into DJ sets; ticketed Saturdays | Papaya Playa Project Saturdays from 1,320 pesos plus 15% service ($89 with service); drinks 200–400 pesos ($12–23) | Food and alcohol with music until 1:00 am; lights off at 1:30 |
| Jungle festivals | Zamna; Day Zero | Ticketed events on set dates, clustered around New Year | No price on the organisers’ announcement pages | No hours published for these events; Day Zero advertises “sunset to sunrise” |
Downtown prices and beach-road drink prices: Things To Do In Tulum’s 2026 nightlife guide. Papaya Playa Project: its own event page. Closing hours: the municipal announcement, as reported by Infobae on 17 March 2023.
Aldea Zamá and La Veleta, the residential neighbourhoods inland where villas like ours are rented, sit in between. Aldea Zamá is 1.7 to 2.7 km by road from the downtown bars and 3.3 km from Papaya Playa Project; La Veleta is closer to town than to the beach. Neither is a nightlife district. Guides list one small club in Aldea Zamá, Zamanik, but it publishes no hours or prices we could check, so it is not in our tables. The same goes for Bonbonniere, the club at the top of Google’s map results for Tulum nightlife, with 2,200 reviews: the landing page of its own website publishes no hours and no prices.
What Time Do Bars and Clubs Close in Tulum? The 1:30 Rule and the 3 am Tickets
Tulum clubs, bars and restaurants with music on the beach road must stop serving food and alcohol at 1:00 am and turn the lights off at 1:30; downtown, the limits are 2:00 and 2:30. Those hours date from 17 March 2023, when, after a run of killings that included two men shot dead outside the El Tu’up nightclub two days earlier, Tulum’s municipal government cut the hours of bars, clubs and restaurants with music. As reported by Infobae that day, the rule has two zones. On the coast, food and alcohol can be sold in places with music — music that must not exceed 65 decibels — until 1:00 am, and the definitive closure, lights off, is at 1:30. Downtown, music and alcohol sales are allowed until 2:00 am, with total closure by 2:30. The municipality said the measure was to protect residents and tourists.
We searched the Mexican press through 15 September 2026 for an amendment and found none. What we did find is venues advertising their big nights well past those hours:
| Venue and night | Area | Advertised hours | Published by |
|---|---|---|---|
| Papaya Playa Project, Saturday events (full moon on 26 September and 3 October 2026) | Beach road | 8 pm to 3 am; door closes at 1 am | The venue’s own event page |
| Casa Jaguar, Thursdays | Beach road | 6 pm to 2 am | OpenStreetMap listing |
| Gitano Jungle, Gypsy Disco on Fridays | Beach road | Dinner from 6 pm, DJ from 8 pm “till late” | The venue’s own site |
| Gitano Jungle, Gypsy Disco | Beach road | 6 pm to 1 am | A Tulum concierge’s booking page |
| Místico, daily | Downtown | 9 am to 2 am | OpenStreetMap listing |
| Palma Central, Salsa Tuesdays | Downtown | 7 pm to midnight | SalsaVida event listing |
| Day Zero, 9 January 2027 | Jungle | “From sunset to sunrise” | The organiser |
Two of the three beach-road venues advertise finishes past the coastal limit; the two downtown venues sit inside theirs. The gap may be covered by event permits, but none are published and we could not find the authorisation for any of these nights — so we claim neither that the rule is being broken nor that it has lapsed. What it changes for your plans is simpler. On an ordinary night on the beach road, expect last orders around 1 am. For a ticketed night, the end time printed on the ticket is that promoter’s commitment, not a town-wide rule. And at Papaya Playa Project the door closes at 1 am whatever you paid: the venue states there are no refunds for late arrivals.
Tulum Party Calendar: the Weekly Nights With Published Hours and Prices
Four weekly nights in Tulum have a published time, a published price or both, as of 15 September 2026: Salsa Tuesdays at Palma Central, the Thursday jungle party at Casa Jaguar, Gypsy Disco on Fridays at Gitano Jungle, and the Saturday events at Papaya Playa Project, full moon parties included. Many guides list a party for every day of the week; these are the nights we could tie to a source. We found none with published hours on Sundays, Mondays or Wednesdays — and Palma Central, for one, is closed on Wednesdays.
| Night | Fixture | Where | Hours | Entry, per person |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | Salsa Tuesdays: lesson, social dancing, live music | Palma Central, Avenida Kukulkán 6, in town | 7 pm to midnight | 80 pesos (about $5), per SalsaVida |
| Thursday | Jungle party | Casa Jaguar, beach road km 7.5 | 6 pm to 2 am, per its OpenStreetMap listing | No cover published |
| Friday | Gypsy Disco | Gitano Jungle, beach road km 7.5, open since 2013 | Dinner from 6 pm, DJ from 8 pm, per Gitano | Party only, arriving after 10 pm: 900 pesos ($53) with a one-hour open bar, per a reseller |
| Saturday | Saturday Celebration, including full moon nights on 26 September and 3 October | Papaya Playa Project, beach road km 4.5 | 8 pm to 3 am; door closes at 1 am | 1,320 pesos early bird or 1,540 Tier 1, plus 15% service: $89 to $103, per the venue |
Two details matter more than the headline price. At Gitano Jungle, the reseller’s booking page lists no minimum spend for up to seven diners on a regular two-hour table, and a minimum of 500 pesos a head ($29) for eight or more, credited in full to food and drink. At Papaya Playa Project, general access does not include a table, and the venue’s page shows the same general-access prices under every event it lists, from 19 September to New Year’s Eve — so confirm the price at checkout for a special date. Dress codes apply at both: “jungle chic” at Gitano, “dinner-casual” at Papaya Playa Project.
How Much Does a Night Out in Tulum Cost? From 80 Pesos to 2,200
A night out in Tulum costs from 80 pesos (about $5) a person for salsa in town to 1,518–1,771 pesos ($89–103) for a Saturday ticket bought from Papaya Playa Project, service included, and up to 2,200 pesos through a reseller. A night in town and a ticketed Saturday on the sand are different purchases. Per person, on the prices we could read on 15 September 2026:
| Night out | Pesos | Dollars | What is included | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Salsa Tuesday at Palma Central | 80 | about $5 | Lesson, social dancing, live music | SalsaVida listing |
| A night of bars downtown | 200–500 in total | $12–29 | Beer at 35–50 pesos, mezcal at 60–100 | Things To Do In Tulum, 2026 guide |
| Gypsy Disco at Gitano Jungle, party only | 900 | $53 | Entry after 10 pm, one-hour open bar | A Tulum concierge’s booking page |
| Papaya Playa Project Saturday, bought from the venue | 1,518–1,771 with service | $89–103 | Entry and 600 pesos ($35) to spend on food and drink; no table | Papaya Playa Project |
| The same full moon on 26 September, bought from a reseller | 1,650–2,200 | $96–128 | Welcome drink and 2-for-1 drinks until midnight; the 1,650-peso ticket is valid only before 10 pm | A Tulum concierge’s booking page |
| A drink on the beach road | 200–400 each | $12–23 | — | Things To Do In Tulum, 2026 guide |
The two Papaya lines are not the same product, so neither is “the” price: the venue sells entry with 600 pesos of credit, the reseller sells entry with a welcome drink and two-for-one rounds. Compare what is included before you compare the number. What does not hold up is the guide figure. The 2026 guide we cite puts a Papaya full moon at 600 to 1,500 pesos; the venue’s own early-bird ticket is 1,320 pesos before the 15% service charge and 1,518 with it, and its Tier 1 ticket is above the top of that range before service is added. Only the venue’s page is current by definition, so it is the one to read on the day you book.
For a group the arithmetic is blunt. Twelve early-bird tickets at Papaya Playa Project come to 18,216 pesos with service, about $1,063. Take off the 7,200 pesos that come back as credit at the bars and the entry itself costs 11,016 pesos, about $643: two-thirds of a night in either of our eight-bedroom houses — Ambre & Épices from $925, Yum Kaax from $989, before tax — or more than a night and a half in Casa Alba, which sleeps twelve from $400. It is not an argument against going: a full moon on the sand is one of the nights Tulum is known for. It is why our four-day plan for a Tulum bachelorette party has one big night, not four.
When Is Tulum Nightlife Busiest? Around New Year, and Two Dates to Book Around
Tulum nightlife is busiest in winter, around New Year, and search interest shows it more plainly than any promoter. In the United States, Google searches for “tulum nightlife” reached 1,300 in January 2026 and held at 720 a month from June to August — 1.8 times the summer level in the depth of winter. The festival calendar has the same shape, and two dates are already set.
Zamna Tulum, 31 December 2026 to 10 January 2027. Zamna announced on 4 September 2026 a ten-day season for its tenth anniversary, back in the jungle where the brand began. The announcement lists a Multipass that lets you choose three event days, with its second ticket tier on sale, but gives no price.
Day Zero, 9 January 2027. Day Zero returns to the jungles of Tulum under the title “Begin Again”, running, in its own words, “from sunset to sunrise”. Prices sit behind its ticket link, not on the page.
If you are renting a house, those ten days matter more than any single party. The fortnight from 18 December carries the highest villa rates and the longest minimum stays, the houses that sleep sixteen go first, and six to eight months ahead is a realistic booking window for that stretch. If your trip is built around Zamna or Day Zero, settle the house before the tickets. Our guide to the best time to visit Tulum covers the weather side of the same decision.
Getting Back From a Night Out in Tulum: Distances From Aldea Zamá, La Veleta and Town
Tulum’s nightlife is spread over about ten kilometres of road, and the ride home is where a good night goes wrong. We measured the road distance and driving time from three starting points — the town crossroads where Highway 307 meets Avenida Cobá, Aldea Zamá and La Veleta — to each venue on 15 September 2026, with an open routing engine on OpenStreetMap data. Times assume no traffic.

Three things about Tulum taxis are worth knowing before you go out. First, there is no authorised fare table to check a price against. Quintana Roo’s mobility law says fares are set and published by the state mobility institute, and on 3 September 2026 La Jornada Maya reported that the 24-zone “official tariff” circulated by the Tiburones del Caribe taxi union carries no agreement number, signature, seal or authorisation date. Its figures still show where prices have gone: a La Veleta fare that cost 31 pesos under the 2019 state table is now split into zones at 50, 80 and 100 pesos ($3 to $6). Second, the extremes are real: in December 2025 Quintana Roo Hoy reported tourists outside the Tantra club being asked 1,500 pesos ($88) to be driven into town, according to one of them. Third, Uber does not operate in Tulum itself, El Universal noted in May 2026.
So agree the fare in pesos before the car moves, and settle the ride home before the night starts rather than at 1 am. A group of twelve needs three standard four-seat taxis, which means three cars and three fares to agree. If you are staying with us, our concierge team arranges transport as well as beach-club and restaurant tables — ask for the return trip when you book the night.
Is Tulum Nightlife Safe? What the US Advisory Says About After Dark
Tulum nightlife carries the same official caution as the rest of the state it sits in. The US State Department’s advisory for Mexico places Quintana Roo, the state that includes Tulum, at Level 2, “Exercise increased caution”; the advisory was last reissued on 29 May 2026 with no change to its level. The Quintana Roo entry reads: “Shootings between rival gangs have injured and killed innocent bystanders.” It adds that US citizens have been victims of both non-violent and violent crimes in tourist and non-tourist areas, and gives two instructions that apply directly to a night out: “Pay attention to your surroundings after dark” and “Remain in well-lit pedestrian streets and tourist zones.” It also suggests downloading the state government’s Guest Assist app, which holds emergency numbers and helps with police reports. The 2023 closing hours were themselves a security measure. In practice: stay with your group, keep the ride home arranged, and do not buy drugs, which is illegal in Mexico. For the dated record of what has happened in Tulum this year, see the full safety picture for Tulum in 2026.
Tulum Nightlife for a Group in a Villa: Go Out, Then Come Home to the Pool
Renting a whole house does not change the rules on noise. Our six villas sit on residential jungle plots with neighbours a garden away, and amplified sound outdoors is agreed in writing, with the hour it stops. What a house changes is everything around the night out. Nobody turns the lights off at 1:30. The pool is still yours when you get back. You can eat at the house and go out late, or go out early and come home for the rest of the night, with a private chef for dinner and a bartender for the night, both booked on request, so nobody in the group spends the evening pouring drinks.
Where you stay changes the ride. From Aldea Zamá, Papaya Playa Project is 4 minutes by road and Gitano Jungle 9; from La Veleta, 8 and 12. Our guide to where to stay in Tulum compares the neighbourhoods. For eight, Piece of Heaven has four bedrooms and a rooftop pool from $350 a night; for twelve, Casa Alba from $400; for sixteen, Ambre & Épices, a Moroccan riad built around a courtyard, from $925; for eighteen, Yum Kaax from $989. Across the six houses that is $30 to $58 a guest a night before tax; a Saturday ticket at Papaya Playa Project is $89 with service, or $54 once its bar credit is spent. All of them are on one page, villas in Tulum, with rates and sleeping capacity; for the afternoons, our guide to Tulum beach clubs has the day-pass prices and minimum spends. Send us your dates and the size of your group, and we will tell you which house is free.
Tulum Nightlife: Frequently Asked Questions
Is Tulum good for nightlife?
Yes, if you pick the right night rather than expecting a party every night. Tulum has three kinds of night out: cheap bars and live music downtown, dinner-into-DJ nights on the beach road, and ticketed festivals that cluster around New Year. The weekly fixtures with published hours are Salsa Tuesdays at Palma Central, a Thursday jungle party at Casa Jaguar, Gypsy Disco on Fridays at Gitano Jungle and ticketed Saturdays at Papaya Playa Project. What Tulum is not, on an ordinary evening, is an all-night town. Under the hours the municipality set in March 2023, venues with music on the coast stop serving at 1:00 am and turn the lights off at 1:30, and downtown at 2:00 and 2:30. Big ticketed nights advertise later finishes, up to 3 am at Papaya Playa Project, so check the ticket. The season is winter: US searches for Tulum nightlife run about 1.8 times higher in January than in summer.
Where is the main nightlife in Tulum?
The beach road is the centre of Tulum’s reputation, and downtown is the centre of its everyday nightlife. The beach road — the Carretera Tulum–Boca Paila, running south through the hotel zone — has Papaya Playa Project at km 4.5 and a cluster around km 7.5 that includes Gitano Jungle, Casa Jaguar and Vagalume, with Bagatelle and Mía nearby. That is where dinner turns into DJ sets and where Saturdays are ticketed. Downtown Tulum nightlife, around Avenida Tulum, means bars such as Batey and Místico, plus the Palma Central food-truck park on Avenida Kukulkán, at lower prices: a 2026 guide puts a whole night of bars at 200 to 500 pesos. Downtown also closes an hour later under the 2023 rule, at 2:30 am against 1:30 on the coast. The festivals, Zamna and Day Zero, happen at jungle sites on set dates. From Aldea Zamá, the downtown bars are 4 to 5 minutes by road and Papaya Playa Project is 4.
What time do bars and clubs close in Tulum?
Under the hours Tulum’s municipal government set on 17 March 2023, venues with music in the coastal zone can serve food and alcohol until 1:00 am and must close, lights off, at 1:30. Downtown, music and alcohol are allowed until 2:00 am, with total closure by 2:30. Music in both zones is capped at 65 decibels. We searched the Mexican press through 15 September 2026 and found no amendment. In practice, some venues advertise later finishes for their big nights: Papaya Playa Project lists its Saturday events from 8 pm to 3 am, with the door closing at 1 am, and Casa Jaguar is listed until 2 am on Thursdays. No event permits are published, so treat the time printed on your ticket as that promoter’s commitment rather than a town-wide rule. On an ordinary night on the beach road, plan for last orders around 1 am, and arrange the ride home before you go out.
Are Tulum nightclubs expensive?
The beach-road venues are, by Mexican standards; downtown is not. A Saturday ticket at Papaya Playa Project costs 1,320 pesos early bird or 1,540 at Tier 1 on the venue’s own page, plus 15% service — $89 to $103 — and includes 600 pesos of food and drink credit but no table. A reseller sold the full moon on 26 September at 1,650 to 2,200 pesos, with different inclusions. At Gitano Jungle’s Friday Gypsy Disco, entry after 10 pm with a one-hour open bar is 900 pesos ($53) through a reseller. A 2026 guide prices drinks on the beach road at 200 to 400 pesos each. Downtown, the same guide puts beer at 35 to 50 pesos and a whole night of bars at 200 to 500, and Salsa Tuesdays at Palma Central cost 80 pesos, with a lesson and live music. Dollar figures here use 17.13 pesos to the dollar.
What is the Tulum jungle party?
“Jungle party” is the name Tulum gives to nights held under the trees rather than on the sand, usually at restaurants on the jungle side of the beach road that turn into dance floors after dinner. The best known are weekly. Casa Jaguar, at km 7.5 of the beach road, holds its jungle party on Thursdays, listed until 2 am. Gitano Jungle, at the same kilometre and open since 2013, holds Gypsy Disco on Fridays, with dinner from 6 pm and a DJ from 8 pm; party-only entry after 10 pm was 900 pesos with a one-hour open bar through a reseller in September 2026. The name also covers the big ticketed events deeper in the jungle: Zamna’s tenth-anniversary season runs from 31 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, and Day Zero returns on 9 January 2027, advertised from sunset to sunrise. Dress codes apply: Gitano asks for “jungle chic”.
Is there a big Tulum festival or rave this season?
Yes, two have dates. On 4 September 2026 Zamna Tulum announced a ten-day tenth-anniversary season from 31 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, with a Multipass that lets you pick three event days; its second ticket tier was on sale, but the announcement gives no price. Day Zero returns to the jungles of Tulum on 9 January 2027 under the title “Begin Again”, advertised from sunset to sunrise, with prices behind its ticket link. Between now and then, the recurring big nights are Papaya Playa Project’s Saturdays, including full moon parties on 26 September and 3 October 2026 and a New Year’s Eve listing. If your trip is built around a festival, book the house first: the fortnight from 18 December carries the highest villa rates and the longest minimum stays, and the houses that sleep sixteen are the first to go.
How do you get back to your villa after a night out in Tulum?
Arrange it before you go. By road, with no traffic, Aldea Zamá is 3.3 km and 4 minutes from Papaya Playa Project and 7.2 km and 9 minutes from Gitano Jungle; from La Veleta the same trips are 5.3 km and 8 minutes, and 9.2 km and 12 minutes. The downtown bars are 1.7 to 3.3 km from either neighbourhood. There is no authorised taxi fare table: in September 2026 La Jornada Maya reported that the union’s 24-zone tariff sheet carries no authorisation, with La Veleta fares at 50, 80 and 100 pesos. Uber does not operate in Tulum itself. Agree the fare in pesos before the car moves, keep the group together, and for twelve or more ask your host for one arranged vehicle rather than three taxis. The US State Department’s advice for Quintana Roo is to pay attention to your surroundings after dark and stay in well-lit tourist zones.
Can a group of twelve go out together in Tulum?
Yes, whether it is a bachelorette weekend or a family birthday, but plan the logistics and the budget. At Gitano Jungle, a reseller’s booking page lists no minimum for up to seven diners and a 500-peso minimum per person for eight or more, credited to food and drink. At Papaya Playa Project, general access does not include a table. Twelve early-bird Saturday tickets come to 18,216 pesos with service, about $1,063, or $643 once the 7,200 pesos of bar credit is spent — two-thirds of a night in either of our eight-bedroom villas. Getting there is the harder part: twelve people need three standard taxis and three agreed fares, or one arranged vehicle. Plan one big ticketed night and spend the others at the house, where outdoor music is agreed in advance with a stop time but nobody turns the lights off at 1:30. Casa Alba sleeps twelve from $400 a night, about $33 each before tax.
Written by the Villas Ambar team in Tulum, where we run six houses on the jungle side of town. One thing in this article is our own work: the road distances and driving times, measured on 15 September 2026 with an open routing engine on OpenStreetMap data. Everything else is quoted from its publisher and dated — the closing hours from the municipal announcement reported by Infobae on 17 March 2023; hours and prices from each venue’s own page where it publishes them, and from a reseller, listing or guide where it does not; taxi fares from La Jornada Maya and Quintana Roo Hoy; the safety advice from the US State Department. Peso conversions use 17.13 pesos to the dollar, Banco de México’s FIX rate of 14 September 2026. Hours, lineups and ticket prices change from week to week, so the venue’s own page on the day you book always wins.
